A Workshop Day is, simply, a day for working and learning. And it's your day! A whole day to yourself with nothing to do but paint, explore, experiment, and try out new ideas. There is always a theme for the day but you are quite at liberty to work freely on your own ideas and still benefit from having the help and guidance of a professional artist.
The day will start with a cup of coffee and a chat about what we're going to do during the day. and I will demonstrate techniques for everyone at the beginning of the session and help you individually throughout the day as problems or difficulties arise.

24 February PORTRAITS Working from photographs to capture a likeness and understanding the importance of tonal values when describing the features.
23 March HOW TO WORK WITH PHOTOGRAPHS Not to just slavishly copy but to be creative. Take some risks, experiment with new techniques and turn your photographs into paintings - not just copies of photographs. 27 April COMPOSITION, PATTERN & DESIGN So important! Strong, well-balanced and interesting compositions make for better paintings. Learn the rules of composition and investigate the various elements required for good design.
18 May TURN THE LIGHT ON Let the light in to your paintings and change the ordinary into the extraordinary. Welcome the drama.
